10. Stranahan House
This historical house is the oldest building in Broward County and one of the most popular historical sites in the city. The architecture calls to mind the classic “frontier” look and recalls the history of how the city was formed. It was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan, the first white settler to the area. Daily tours are offered and no reservations are required.
9 . Butterfly World
Located only fifteen miles north of downtown Ft. Lauderdale, Butterfly world is an incredible natural exhibit that opened in 1988. A screened in aviary showcases a tropical rain forest filled with caterpillars and butterflies of all shapes and sizes. Outside the aviary are a pond, gift shop, and some incredible gardens to explore.
8. Jungle Queen Riverboat Tours
There are two distinct tours offered across several boats from this attraction. With a Sightseeing Cruise, you can spend a luxurious three hours heading up the New River past the famous Millionaire’s Row, through downtown, the Everglades, and finally the Jungle Queen Indian Village. There is also a Barbecue and Shrimp Dinner Cruise that lasts four hours and takes a trip up New River to a destination where you can enjoy all-you-can-eat shrimp and ribs.
7. Flamingo Gardens
This elegant stretch of jungle in South Florida houses some of the only natural jungle growths in the state. With an open aviary, a crocodile lagoon, and plenty more to offer, visitor will find a lot to love about this unique and natural exhibit.
6. Sawgrass Recreation Park
While many perceive the Everglades as swamp land, this park shows that it’s so much more. A narrated airboat tour is offered which showcases the various flora and fauna in this part of Florida. The tour will also show you reconstructed Seminole villages and a vanishing species exhibit.
5. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park
This 180-acre park is known for its incredible beaches and swimming. With freshwater lagoons, saltwater beaches, and a nature walk, there are a variety of activities you can enjoy when you visit this attraction.
4. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens
This is another historical estate that was built in the 1920s and was once the home of two famous artists: Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. Tours are available Tuesday Through Sunday and a gift shop features numerous souvenirs as well.
