The blueprints

Many first-time homebuyers mistakenly believe that all new homes are custom made. But that is not the case. Most are built from existing blueprints, which can often be modified or upgraded at little cost. However, if you want a completely original building plan, expect to pay at least $25,000 just for blueprint fees! That's what it typically costs to get exactly what you want.

Architect fees

The more challenging the project, the more likely it is to go over budget. This often happens with custom-made homes, since the architect might not have experience with the new style and the future homeowner is often quite particular.

Decorating and interior design fees

What's the point of building a home to your exact specifications if you aren't also going to decorate it that way? The planning alone for custom jobs will cost you a pretty penny, and that's before a single curtain is hung or carpet is laid down.
